    Models can be cropped via lossless crop instead of real crop on Altizure.com. And how to crop in real style?

    ps:Lossless Crop will not destroy the original model file and can be redo at any time with unlimited modification. Real Crop will really cut the model file and the original model file after successful clipping could not be recovered.

    First of all, you could conduct lossless crop on the model by Altizure.com, and then download the original model and cropped file. By virtue of Offline Format Conversion by Altizure Desktop, convert the original and cropped model files to the real crop model, then upload the converted model file to Altizure.com, you could get a normal view on real crop model. If import the real crop model files into Altizure Planets, it could accelerate loading multiple large models.

    Basic Steps:

    1. Crop the model on Altizure.com.
    2. Download the model file and cropped file.
    3. Output the real crop model file by the offline converter of Altizure Desktop.
    4. Compress the output model file and upload to Altizure.com again.

    Operation Details:

    1. Upon completion of the model reconstruction, crop modification can be proceeded on the model settings page.

    2. When the crop is done, download the obj file of the model and the crop result from the model overview. The filename prefix crop_mask represents the clipping result.

    3. Open the offline format converter on Altizure Desktop, select Full Project OBJ files as conversion type and crop&water as format, then enter the paths of the downloaded original obj file and clipping results. Note that Chinese characters should be avoided in the path to reduce errors in the conversion process.
      All file paths selected, click "OK" for conversion real crop model files. The finalized crop file can be viewed by third-party software(e.g. meshlab).

    4. Compress the real crop model files and upload to the Third-party Model -> Photogrammetric Model on the Altizure.com. You could browse the new model when the upload is completed.

    • Added 3D Browsing module in the User Setting, where 3D and interaction settings can be adjusted to override the default system preference (Note: These functions are only valid for logged in users).

    Upgrade your free project to unlimited quota!

     
    The initial free quota for each user account is 3 GP. But as long as your project is selected as a Recommended one, supposed the project size is ** N ** GP, your free quota will be automatically increased to ** 3 + N ** GP!


    Notes:

    If a user continually adds new images to an project that has been selected as "Featured" with the intention to increase the free quota, our system rates this as a waste of computing resources. The system will remove the project from "Featured" and wipe out the free quota it has earned.

    The original purpose of increasing the free quota is to encourage users to create more high-quality and interesting models contributing to the public appreciation and share the pleasure of 3D model construction.

    If users have any special cases (e.g. disaster relief, charitable purposes, academic research, etc.) to reconstruct models exceeding the free quota, please contact us at support@altizure.com. We'll consider case by case.


    Q: Only free projects are entitled to quota upgrade?

    A: No matter free or paid projects are entitled to quota upgrades as long as the project remains public. You could adjust the visibility of a private project into public.

     
    Q: Will there be any expense for quota upgrade?

    A: Quota upgrade is totally free of charge.

     
    Q: What kind of projects can be selected as Recommended ones?

    A: When picking out the Recommended projects, projects' reconstruction quality as follows will be our core focus.

    1. Good data acquisition. The reconstructed scene should be properly exposed and textured, not too dark or too light.

    2. Data integrity. If the height difference of the scene is huge, the side of the scene is also very important, the building sides should be captured at an oblique angle or by rotation around the center object.

     
    Q: If my Recommended project is changed to private or invisible, could I still hold the free quota?

    A: Truly sorry, if you change the Recommended projects to private or invisible, you won't be able to have the free quota that comes with them. Your free quota will be updated in real time.

     
    Q: I have three Recommended projects, which are reconstructed from images in 2, 3.5 and 2.8 GP respectively. How many free quota could I get accumulated in total?

    A: Your maximum Recommended project is 3.5 GP, so your free quota should be 3 + 3.5 = 6.5GP

     
    Q: My current free quota has been upgraded to 3 + 5.9 = 8.9GP. Now I have another 5.3 GP recommended project. What is my new free quota?

    A:Your free quota is still 8.9GP. You need to have a recommended project greater than 5.9 GP to further increase your quota.

     
    Q: Could I use the free quota for the Pro Project?

    A: Free quota is only available for free projects. However, you can reconstruct the 3D models in the free project first, and pay for the Pro project when feel satisfied with the result.

     
    Q: What is the quota ceiling of 3+N upgrade plan?

    A: Unlimited.

    When using Altizure App (iOS) for aerial photography missons, we can synchronize missions to other login devices if we want to change mobile device for operation or browsing.

    Altizure iOS App 4.6.6 has been updated on August 2,2019. This upgrade has improved the login and registration mechanism, and some functions have also be optimized for upload, preview, and application on third-party models. At the same time, this new version supports photogrammetric and point-cloud models browsing, making 3D rendering and displaying much easier and faster.

    Update Model Browser for Hand-made, Photogrammetric and Point-cloud Models

    Altizure R&D team upgraded the model browser for Altizure iOS App 4.6.6 and made it well compatible with the latest 3D engine, which could guarantee a better user experience.

    Users could view all uploaded manual, photogrammetric and point-cloud models directly in the My Models list. Also annotations could be added to models for information hints.

    The Altizure App is the Altizure all-in-one mobile platform integrating photo capturing, cloud 3D modeling and studio, and online exploration. In the autonomous capturing mode, the Altizure App controls DJI drones with the help of DJI SDK to capture vertical and oblique photographs. Now, you could download it from iOS App Store.

    Let's look at some features of Altizure App(iOS).

    Capture

    Altizure App (iOS) interface is mainly divided into four sections - Capture, Explore, Support and Me.

    Capture feature consists of Drone Capture, Mobile Capture and Photo Upload.

    Drone Capture

    The Drone Capture can realize the UAV functions of one-button Take-off, Auto Flight, Intelligent Continued Flight and Photo Capture. It provides intelligent three-dimensional modeling flight trajectory and easy-to-use flight guidance for free members.

    Prior to the initial use of Altizure App, it is necessary to link the UAV to DJI GO 4 (recommended) for relevant aircraft condition monitoring and setting on image overlapping, camera angle, flight height etc.

    After checking the status and parameters of UAV, login out DJI GO 4, open Altizure App to start planning and creating aerial photography tasks.

    There are a few points to pay attention in task creating.

    1. The aircraft needs to fly higher than the tallest building in the task area to avoid a collision accident.

    2. It is highly recommended to have over 75% overlapping between images from the sides and ends, so that the captured image data can be well reconstructed into 3D model.

    3. Before creating the task, select the map to determine if you need to turn on the map correction feature.


    After the task is created, the flight can be started and the camera will go into automatic capture mode. In case of an emergency during flight, it is ok to click STOP to abort the flight task.

    Notes:

    1.When the UAV is flying far away with the weak signal, you can turn the remote control antenna at the location of the plane to alleviate the weak signal.

    2.During the flight, you should always pay attention to the battery power. When the battery is at low condition, you need to call the aircraft back, replace the battery to continue the mission.
    Upon completion of the photo capture, the image data will be uploaded into altizure.com for automatic 3D reconstruction.

    Mobile Capture

    The mobile capture function supports timing shots and 3D real-time preview, free members can shoot relatively small delicate model objects.

    Photo Upload

    Users can upload images to the Altizure App for 3D reconstruction, which is easier and faster than the web operation. All you need to do is to select the photos from the camera album. Or you can also apply long-pressing smart selection to achieve quick selection and transmission within seconds.


    Explore

    Altizure App (iOS) supports online browsing photogrammetric 3D models and 3rd-party models. It allows users to view individual models as well as those of public creators.
    In the Explore section, some outstanding public models are picked out and displayed on the Featured page. We can freely click in to view the models shared by others.

    According to the different locations, themes and categories, we divide the themes in this section to facilitate users to search target collections more quickly.

    Altizure Earth provides a new browsing style - using satellite image as the background and positioning highly finished models according to GPS, so that all users' public models are connected to the Earth as a whole.

    Here we can browse the whole Earth and view our interested models. Combined with flexible touch-screen gestures, it is easy to have a panoramic world view in 3D.

    Users can view their own photogrammetric, hand-made and point-cloud models by logging in Me.
    The Altizure App enables simple model browsing. The gesture operation can be used to zoom in, zoom out, rotate, move models etc. You can also view the camera pose of the models and get the capture angles information from other users in the comment column. Three rendering effects can also help the model user to adjust different views according to individual occasions.

    About Testing Channel

    Because of restrictions in the App Store, when a new version of the app is installed, it cannot be returned to the old version. To prevent some special models and older firmware versions from being affected by the new DJI SDK, we released the beta for Altizure iOS via Apple's official recommended TestFlight. The test beta is a separate App, which will not affect the use of the official version after installation.
    Welcome to join the test and preview the new functionality. Any suggestions during the development process will be highly appreciated to help us improve Altizure app and accelerate the release of new features.


    Download Method:

    Summary:

    Download the official TestFlight app from the iOS App Store, then open Altizure's invitation page in mobile browser and confirm joining:https://testflight.apple.com/join/nwHGC5Vh

    Tutorial:
    1. Use Apple's official test platform TestFlight to download the beta, just search TestFlight in the App Store and download it. Please follow the steps below when the download task is completed. (Note: Altizure will automatically send a test invitation through webpage link, but no need to fill the invitation code in the TestFlight. Please close the pops-up window for the invitation code filling in the TestFlight.)

    3. Click "Start Testing" in Step 2 of the invitation page, and the system will jump to TestFlight (some browsers will jump to the TestFlight app directly after opening the invitation page).

    4. The TestFlight will display the Altizure app invitation page. Click the ACCEPT button for the invitation.

    5. After accepting the invitation, click INSTALL to install the test version. There will be a dot at the bottom left of the icon after installation. You can uninstall the beta at any time, or install other recent beta versions.

    Notes

    The beta version was also released after a period of internal testing by the developers and is suitable for normal flight. If you are not comfortable with the stability of the new version, use DJI's official PC simulator for test flights.

    The latest updates of Altizure Planets focus not only on bug repair but also additional features. For example, the new speical effects tool can insert fire, cloud, snow and smoke effects. The entity panel on the left has also been updated with a new UI, a new multi-select mode, the ability to copy individual entity and support for sorting entities in various ways. Storyboard scene editing feature supports modification on live scene locations.

    New Features on the Entity Panel

    Moving your mouse to the left panel can hide or copy created effects. Long press the left mouse button or right click to activate the menu, which support sharing, multiple selection and removal. In multi-select mode, you can modify visibility or delete selected contents simultaneously.

    The left entity panel supports four new sorting ways - Created, Updated, Name, Visible, and Author.

    Other Updates:

    • Support collaborators to edit each other's entity attributes.
    • Optimize the multi-collaborators mode, and forward update notifications to other collaborators if any modification.
    • Optimize the Fly to animation, first fly to a certain altitude and zoom in gradually.

    1. Select Create on the altizure.com, click Planet and Start Creating for new project creation.

(PID is the unique number of each model, usually there is a string of numbers and English characters after the link when browsing the model on the web page, which is the project PID)

    Tutorial: Import KML files into Altizure Planets

    Now Altizure Planets can support importing kml file and plotting geometric annotations in batches. Entry into the Planets creation interface, click the Import Data icon from Toolbar, select KML button to import the kml file into the Planets and present it as a 3D solid.
    Currently 5 types of brush geometries can be supported importing.

    • Annotation
    • Light Beam
    • Polyline
    • Polytube
    • Polygon

    The feature file for corresponding point, line and polygon in kml is as below.
    The KML data import process is roughly similar to SHP. Details refer to Tutorial: Import SHP Files into Altizure Planets.

    Notes to file import:

    • Please upload the .kml file;

    Demonstration Case

    Now we have the map of the action trajectory in Guangzhou. The trajectory map contains point and line features, which is opened in QGIS as below. We want to import the label points and trajectories within KML into the planet.

    Upload the KML data to Planets.

    When the upload is complete, you can configure the correspondence between KML data and the planet style properties.
    This is the key step. Through field matching, you can set the style of the planet entity in batches by the original KML attribute, such as: color, transparency, label height, polyhedral height etc. (Details as per "Attribute Correspondence Table" below)
    The fields with the same or similar names will be pre-assigned.

    Tutorial: Import SHP Files into Altizure Planets

    Now Altizure Planets can support importing shapefile and plotting geometric annotations in batches. Entry into the Planets creation interface, click the Import Data icon from Toolbar, select SHP button to import the shp file into the Planets and present it as a 3D solid.
    Currently 5 types of brush geometries can be supported importing.

    • Annotation
    • Light Beam
    • Polyline
    • Polytube
    • Polygon

    The feature file for corresponding point, line and polygon in shp is as below

    Notes to file import:

    • Please compress all the shp file groups into the zip file before uploading;
    • The same shp group in the compressed file should contain at least .shp, .shx, .dbf;
    • A compression package can contain multiple shp file groups;
    • The imported shp should be opened normally in qgis or arcmap;
    • A clear coordinate system needs to be set before shp is imported;
    • To avoid garbled Chinese characters, it is recommended to edit the generated UTF-8 encoded shp file by QGIS or ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.1 or above. Details refer to How To: Read and write shapefile and dBASE files encoded in various code pages
    • If you encounter garbled problems, you can refer to the following Q & A Question 1: How to solve garbled problems;
    • If the Planets has any coordinate system set, you need to define the coordinate system of the shp file as Web Mercator (EPSG: 3857) for proper import.
    • The shp field name has a mapping relationship with the Planets attribute. Please refer to the corresponding relationship table below.

    Demonstration Case

    Now we have the map of administrative divisions in Guangzhou, which is opened in QGIS as below. We want to import it into the planets in the form of polygon.

    Right-click on the layer and choose Open Attribute Table. You can find that there is already some data in each division.

    As show, there is already a "name" field in the existing data, which is exactly what we want to mark on the area, so there is no need to change it.
    Now we want to use the colors we set for each administrative division. Referring to the "polyhedron" table in the attribute correspondence table above, it is known that the color field should be added to assign colors.

    When the upload is complete, you can configure the correspondence between shp data and the planet style properties.
    This is the key step. Through field matching, you can set the style of the planet entity in batches by the original shp attribute, such as: color, transparency, label height, polyhedral height etc. (Details as per "Attribute Correspondence Table" below)
    The fields with the same or similar names will be pre-assigned.

    • The Chinese information I imported is garbled. How to solve it?

    Summary

    There are several basic principles for acquiring aerial data for 3D modeling:

    1. The higher the image accuracy, the better the 3D effect. The lower the drone, the higher the resolution of the photo, the larger the CCD sensor format, and the better the three-dimensional result obtained. Meanwhile, the 3D effect of the image speaks louder than the video.

    2. The drone must move and should not rotate the camera at a fixed point to take a separate set of images like a panorama. We must let the drone move to take multiple sets of images.

    3. The overlapping degree between photos should be intensive - 70% is basic, 80%~85% is recommended, more than 90% is wasteful on image resources.

    There are two basic shooting methods which can be flexibly combined to apply in most scenes as follows.

    1. Surround Flight - If you are using a DJI drone, DJI Go's fixed-point surround flight is recommended.

    2. Poly-line Flight - If you are using a DJI drone, Altizure is recommended.

    We are going to explain both shooting modes in more details below.

    Surround Flight

    Surround Flight is a circular flight around the object to be modeled with the camera targeting on the subject being modeled.This shooting method is especially suitable for shooting a single building or landmark with good 3D reconstruction effect and few images required. It is quite economical and practical.

    Here's a surround flight example of a single building:

    If the building is relatively tall, multi-layer circular photography can be adopted to ensure that both the top and bottom areas can be well covered by high-precision images. E.g.

    Poly-line Flight

    Poly-line Flight is a path flight that lets the drone go through the zigzag route and scans the entire area to be photographed. This method is more suitable for shooting large-area scenes.

    The following is a poly-line flight example.

    Integrated Application

    These two basic flight models have their own individual advantages and disadvantages, and should be flexibly applied in practice to achieve better results. For example, in one case, the creator used a poly-line flight to cover a large area of ​​the scene with surround flight focusing on the main building.

    Flight Altitude and Ground Accuracy
    The main measure of ground accuracy is the ground sampling density GSD, which is measured in centimeters per pixel. For the same camera, the lower the altitude, the higher the ground accuracy, and the more detailed the three-dimensional reconstruction results.The following table shows the number of photos and flight altitudes required to capture a square kilometer at 5, 10, or 20 GSD with 70% overlapping.

    The number of acquisition photos above is for reference only. The actual number is closely related to the accuracy of the flight path, the weather, camera shooting speed, the shape of the acquisition range, and the operation ability of the collector.

    Flight Path
    The drone needs to fly over the target area in accordance with the illustrated folding line. The flight path needs to be expanded slightly beyond the actual acquisition area. The extended distance is equal to the flight altitude. For example, if the flying altitude is 100 meters, it needs to expand 100 meters outwardly.

    Image Overlapping
    Heading and side image overlapping requires at least 70%. To ensure the best 3D effect, take aerial photos instead of aerial video.
